1. About Tirumala Tirupati
Sri Venkateswara Swami temple in Tirumala โ popularly known as Tirupati Balaji โ is the richest and most visited temple in the world, receiving over 50,000โ100,000 pilgrims every day. Located on the seventh peak (Venkatachala) of the Tirumala Hills in Andhra Pradesh, at 853 metres above sea level, this temple is the embodiment of divine grace and the Vaishnavite tradition of South India.

2. Types of Darshan
Special Entry Darshan (SED)
Rs. 300 ticket. Booked online via TTD portal. 2-hour queue. Most recommended for pilgrims.
Free Darshan (Sarva Darshan)
Free but involves 12โ24+ hour queue. Tokens issued at Tirumala.
VIP Break Darshan
For senior citizens, differently abled, NRIs. Apply via TTD website in advance.
Special Sevas
Suprabhatam, Thomala, Archana โ private sevas booked online months in advance.
3. How to Book Darshan Online
- Visit the official TTD website: tirupatibalaji.ap.gov.in
- Register with your mobile number and Aadhaar / ID proof
- Select your darshan date and slot (available 90 days in advance)
- Pay Rs. 300 per person for SED (Special Entry Darshan)
- Download or print the e-pass; carry a valid ID proof to Tirumala
4. Practical Tips
- Dress code: Men must wear dhoti or formal trousers with shirt; jeans not allowed. Women must wear saree, salwar or traditional dress.
- Mobile phones: Cameras and phones with cameras must be deposited at the queue complex
- Laddu Prasadam: The famous Tirupati Laddu (GI-tagged) can be purchased at counters โ maximum 2 per person on darshan ticket
- Accommodation: Book TTD cottages online in advance; good quality dharamshalas available
- Tonsuring (Mokku): Devotees offer their hair at Kalyana Katta โ token system; book online
5. How to Reach Tirumala
Tirupati city is the base โ reached by train (major junction connected to all of India) or by air (Tirupati airport). From Tirupati, Tirumala is 18 km by road through a beautiful ghat road. TTD buses run continuously; private taxis are also available. The walk up the ghat steps (Alipiri or Srivari Mettu) through the forest is also a devotional experience in itself.
