Varjyam (also called Varjya Kalam, Vargam, Varjam) is an inauspicious period calculated based on the ruling Nakshatra (lunar mansion) of the day. The word 'Varjyam' literally means 'that which should be avoided/rejected.'

Key Distinction from Rahu Kalam: While Rahu Kalam follows a fixed weekday pattern, Varjyam shifts daily with the Nakshatra. It can occur at any time, including at night — something Rahu Kalam cannot do. It is less observed in North India and more strictly followed in Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada traditions. Severity is lower than Rahu Kalam and Yamagandam.

Remedy: No direct Puranic deity assigned to Varjyam specifically. Ganesha as the remover of obstacles is the practical recommendation. If unavoidable, pray to Lord Ganesha and your Ishta Devata (personal deity) before proceeding.
