Marriage Muhurtham (Vivah Muhurat, Lagna Muhurtham, Kalyana Muhurtham, Thirumana Muhurtham in Tamil) is one of the most sacred decisions in Hindu life. Four factors must align: Tithi (lunar day), Nakshatra (star), Lagna (ascendant), and Vara (weekday).

Auspicious Nakshatras for Marriage: Rohini, Mrigashira, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Uttarashada, Uttara Bhadrapada, Revati — these nine stars are traditionally considered most favorable.

Avoid Strictly: Rahu Kalam (highest priority), Rikta Tithis (4th, 9th, 14th), inauspicious nakshatras. Always verify Tarabalam for both birth stars. Timings shown above are calculated for Kolkata.

Abhijit Muhurtham (Abhijit Muhurta, Abhijeet Muhurat) is the most powerful auspicious period of any day, occurring around solar noon — approximately 24 minutes before and after the Sun reaches its zenith, making it ~48 minutes total.

Mahabharata Authority: Lord Krishna tells Arjuna in the Mahabharata: 'Among muhurtas, I am Abhijit' — placing it as the highest divine manifestation. Abhijit is the 28th Nakshatra, an invisible lunar mansion between Uttara Ashadha and Shravana that only becomes active at the solar midpoint.

Supreme Power: Abhijit Muhurtham destroys ALL doshas — it is the only muhurta that can override even Rahu Kalam. If important work absolutely must happen during Rahu Kalam AND it coincides with Abhijit Muhurtham, it can proceed safely. This is why major temples perform their most important midday pujas during this window.

Exception: Wednesday is the ONLY day when Abhijit Muhurtham is not auspicious. On Wednesdays, avoid this muhurta for important beginnings.

Best For: Starting ANY new venture (most powerful), business launches, signing contracts, medical treatments, travel, marriage (if no better muhurta available), meeting important people for the first time, legal proceedings.
